IATA was founded in Havana, Cuba, in April 1945, as the successor of the organization International Air Traffic Association, established in 1919 at Hague. Initially it had 57 members out of 31 states, especially from Europe and North America.

With its headquarters at Montreal, nowadays, IATA gathers 265 airlines from all over the world,  representing 83% of the air traffic worldwide.

IATA’s mission is to represent, lead, and serve the airline industry.
